A Canadian Public College wanted to install people counting solutions in lecture rooms, laboratories, staff offices, canteens, washrooms and the total number of people per floor and per building. The client also wanted to monitor waste bin level data from across the campus. They also wanted to know washroom usage to enable a flexible cleaning schedule, with cleaners having the ability to check in/out when cleaning. All data needed be sent via an API to their incumbent application.
The College wanted to utilise their Cloud Thingsboard application but also wanted to use camera based people counters without sending the data directly to the Cloud. They also pre-installed had waste bin sensors but the data couldn’t be sent directly to the client’s Thingsboard application, so IAconnects needed to find a way to pull the data through MobiusFlow and out to Thingsboard.
IAconnects designed a solution whereby the client has two MobiusFlow IoT Edge Gateways on site which were connected to the video based Power over Ethernet (PoE) people counting sensors. As the client didn’t want video based data being sent via Cloud, these devices were connected to on premise gateways, with normalised and anonymised data sent to MobiusFlow Cloud. The Cloud gateway is used to aggregate data from two Edge gateways, and also pull waste bin data from 3rd party application. All relevant data was then sent to the incumbent Thingsboard application.

The Canadian College can now understand usage across their campus, create better cleaning schedules and inform their services teams when to empty the waste bins. All aspects are part of a secure solution, allowing the client to utilise their pre-existing Thingsboard application as requested.
